Shows in NYC on 8/3/06 – Muse & Arckid

August 4, 2006 at 11:41 pm (Rock)

My wife and I hit 2 shows last night both were excellent.

First off, Muse at the Hammerstein Ballroom on 34th Street.  This was my 1st time seeing these guys.  I have been a fan for 4 years.  The set was stunning.  Mathhew Bellamy is a monster musician.  His voice is insanely strong, hitting the highest and lowest notes with what appeared to be no effort.  I was also blown away by his piano skills.  I’m guessing he must have studied classical music at some point.  The set include a ton of stuff off the new album which was fine with me because I think the new album rocks.  If you don’t know Muse go check them out now.

Next we headed down to the Continental to catch a band that features 3 out 4 Spacehog members.  Brothers Antony and Roy Langdon have added younger brother Chris and original S.H. drummer Johnny Cragg is back too.  This new band is called Arckid.  Really great stuff.  It was kinda cool to see 3 guys who are bothers on stage together and the new songs are quite good.  If you dug Spacehog, you will dig these guys.  Their site is a little rough but you can hear some of their demos posted in a media player.  Again this band is called Arckid and their sound could be described as Thin Lizzy meets The Raconteurs meets The Cars meets Tin Machine meets The Who.

Scott Ian from Anthrax (& VH1’S Supergroup) visited the set of Sci Fi’s Battlestar Galactica.  I guess I will take credit here for setting this historic visit up.  I was just forwarded a bunch of pitures of Scott on the set with the cast.  Stayed tuned to Talking Metal for some of these pics!
